Recycle Committee

  • lImplement a recycling program within business facilities
  • lRecycle all paper, bottles, cans, and cardboard throughout schools
  • lEliminate use of any non-recyclable, non-reusable, non-compostable products from cafeterias
  • lAfter waste reduction efforts, recycle and compost as much as possible to reduce residual waste
  • lConduct waste audits to identify best targets for waste reduction, recycling, cost savings, and greenhouse gas reduction
  • lTarget high profile locations to be model recycling facilities – IBM Watson as example
  • lSchools create and market awareness campaign re: recycled projects.  Fundraisers and other school events should promote and use recycled products
  • lEnlist the help of realtors that can support recycling for those moving out and those moving in
  • lAdopt pay-as-you-throw rate structure, eliminate free bulky waste pickups OR offer additional pickups for targeted materials (PCs, appliances, etc.)
  • lDevelop Recycling Branding program to identify non-recyclable containers (Styrofoam) and work with local stores to label items (such as Hannaford has done with nutrition)
  • lPromote on-site deconstruction sales
  • lEncourage drives and collection bins for materials that are not currently recycled by the county, such as VHS tapes and CDs
  • lPromote second-hand shops, salvage companies, food banks, and swap sites
  • lReview purchasing for office supplies implementing a policy to purchase recycled goods
  • lCreate training programs to education custodial teams on importance of recycling, source separation, purity of stream and proper handling techniques
